2008 Fond du Lac County Fair

2007 Fair Report from the President of the Board

The 2007 fair season has come to an end and, what a fair season we have observed. This year the weather played an integral part in the success or demise of each fair. Fortunately, FDL County was one of the lucky ones. We couldn't have asked for better weather. There were a few sprinkles on Wednesday evening, but the rest of the fair was gorgeous.

I'd like to take a few minutes to highlight a few of the changes that occurred in 2007. With the never ending increases in the cost of putting on a fair that is appealing to the general public, we felt it necessary to ask the support of area businesses in the form of sponsorships. We brought on a person who went out and did just that. We were very fortunate to have the generous support from Johnsonville Brats, Agri-Land Co-op, Ottery Transportation, Vir-Clar Farms, Farm Bureau, Culvers, Timblin Transportation, Grande, The Exchange Club, Horicon Bank, Camp Winnegator, Mercury Marine, QuadGraphics and WalMart just to name a few.

Our Tuesday Family Night noted some changes this year. Johnsonville Brats were the generous sponsors of this family event. Once again, we had record attendance. We did, for the first time, charge a $2.00 admission for anyone 15 years and older. A portion of that money was donated to the Boys and Girls Club of FDL. The fair board felt a minimal admission fee was needed to offset some of the costs associated with putting on the fair. There Was no negative feedback from fairgoers regarding this decision.

The 2007 fair showcased some great country and rock groups on the grandstand. Blake Shelton and the Oak Ridge Boys provided shows that attracted the younger, as well as the more mature country fans. Tesla and Poison rocked the grandstand with their rock acts. All four shows brought in great crowds, with Poison setting the record for a single night's performance.

While the fair relies heavily on good attendance from the grandstand shows, our main focus continues to be on area youth who take part in the fair. The incredible exhibits displayed in the Rec Building, the quality animal shows that go on all week, and the many other events that involve youth show that the fair is about so much more. The fair board is very adamant about providing an atmosphere that is educational, entertaining and fun, one that will keep young people wanting to come back year after year.

Events like the fair don't just happen. The fair board couldn't do it without help. So at this time, on behalf of the board, I would like to thank the many volunteers who help before, during and after the fair. Thanks to Mr. Buechel and the County Board for your continued support. To a1l4-H leaders, FFA advisors and Non Profit Organizaitons. Thank you to all of our generous sponsors. Every one of you have a special part in making the fair a success each year. Thank you.

With a successful 2007 behind us, we are busy making plans for 2008. So mark your calendars for July 16 thru the 20th because IlLife will be great at the 2008 FDL County Fair."
